As a Sustainability Manager I became all too aware of the limitations of sustainability-as-usual and was drawn to the world of Degrowth. I live in Barcelona with my family and like to read, write, run, hit tennis balls, grow things on my balcony, and continue to unconsciously blend Spanish and Catalan.
- What lead you to first discover the topic of degrowth?
Donut Economics by Kate Raworth > Less is More by Jason Hickel > Tools for Conviviality by Ivan Illich ... and I was hooked. - What do you like most about the degrowth movement?
I like that people here challenge the status quo everyday and dare to dream of what a post growth future could look like. It's revitalising. - How did you discover the IDN?
I honestly don't know. I somehow stumbled across the website and joined up. - What do you enjoy most about being part of the IDN?
As part of the Practice Circle, I'm enjoying trying to reimagine what companies and jobs will look like in a post growth world, where they might serve people and planet rather than capital. I also enjoy building networks between all the different organisations and academic institutions we interact with. Learning about the theory of Delinking has also been a highlight. - What would you say to someone who is considering volunteering with the IDN?
Anyone who feels like they work in a bullshit job that serves no real purpose should join the IDN. It's the entry point to the best kind of rabbit hole, at the end of which you might find what you're looking for.
