Sebastian Uribe

I am an activist and community organizer, mobilizing people to change our current exploitative, extractivist and unequal system. My background is in computer science and anthropology and I have decades of experience in various fields of work, including software development, project management, events organization, science communication and global citizen education.

  1. What lead you to first discover the topic of degrowth?
Probably a mix of climate activism and my general interest in how societies and economies work. Putting those two concerns together makes it rather difficult to not stumble upon a critique of never-ending growth.

  2. What do you like most about the degrowth movement?
I like that there is still a lot of struggle and discussions within it, because that leads to a type of growth that we do need: as people, groups and societies.

  3. How did you discover the IDN?
Through a fellow degrowth activist in Berlin.

  4. What do you enjoy most about being part of the IDN?
There's a lot of freedom to do, create, debate and bring ideas forward. It's a whirlwind of possibilities.

  5. What would you say to someone who is considering volunteering with the IDN?
Just go for it. If you don't know how you could contribute, just ask!
